Background

He graduated from the University of Miami, Magnum Cum Laude, where he finished medical school and went on to complete his four year Obstetrical and Gynecologic residency in 1997 and a three year Fellowhip in Gynecologic Oncology at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2004. He is double board certified with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the practice of Gynecologic Oncology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He is a preceptor for Boston Scientific teaching advanced pelvic surgery such as pelvic reconstruction for pelvic organ prolapsed, urinary incontinence, and pelvic fistulas as well with Ethicon Endo-Surgery and Da Vinci teaching other surgeon advanced laparoscopy and Robotic surgery. He travels annually to Africa to provided volunteer support in the surgical corrections of vesico-vaginal and recto-vaginal fistulas. He was the first at Palmetto General Hospital to use the da VinciĀ® Surgical System performing a robotically-assisted laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, in addition to benign hysterectomies, myomectomies and sacroculpopexy

Dr. Salom has contributed to numerous publications, manuscripts and presentations ranging from entire chapters of books to peer journals. He is currently involved in research in:

  • Chemosensitivity Directed Assay in Ovarian Cancer, and
  • DVT risk in Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery
  • Risk of hernias after laparoscopic Surgery
  • Abdominoplasty concomitantly with hysterectomy- is there increased risk?
